
The Property
This breathtaking 20,000 acre ranch is a marvel of nature, with abundant wildlife and exceptional diversity of terrain; the fact that it remains intact, minutes from the beauty and amenities of the spectacular Monterey Peninsula, is serendipitous, particularly for those fortunate enough to make it home. Carefully and privately sited amongst the expansive vistas, rolling meadows, oak and redwood studded landscape, the 296 home sites range from 5 to 80-acre parcels. Prices for lots range from $450,000 to $2,395,000; there are currently 11 homes for sale, ranging from $4,200,000 to $8,999,000. There are currently over 105 homes built and occupied, another 13 under construction and 12 homes in actove design review.
The Preserve Ranch Club
A private Ranch Club, limited to 400 equity memberships. Membership is by invitation only, and is limited to Santa Lucia Preserve property owners and non-resident Preserve Golf Club members. The following is an overview of the Preserve Ranch Club amenities.
The Hacienda
Built in the 1920's by George Gordon Moore, the Spanish Colonial Hacienda is the Preserve's social center, providing a 16-room lodge for Ranch members and their guests. Fine dining is available every night in season, and The Hacienda hosts a weekly "social" event every Thursday, frequently accompanied by a guest speaker or a special menu from The Preserve's own Chef Carlton Lepine. Although considered a part of The Hacienda, The Ranch House is a separate structure with 7 guest rooms and private courtyard. It is often used by members for family reunions and group gatherings. In addition to the sprawling lawns and landscape, there is a private pool with a service cabana.
The Sports Center
Located adjacent to The Hacienda, The Sports Center offers a variety of outdoor recreated and fitness activities. It boasts an aquatic center with resort-like pool, heated spa, children's pool, play fountains, and a three-story slide for all ages. From May through September, an on-site chef prepares pool-side comfort food. In addition, there are 4 tennis courts (two hard surfaced, two acrylic claw), a manicured croquet court, (which sometimes doubles as a grass tennis court), a full-sized bocce court, horseshoe pits, and an enclosed batting cage. Inside the Sports Center, there is a workout room complete with cardio equipment, strength machines and free weights, a movement studio for private use or for a variety of classes including Yoga. There are also fully equipped Men's and Ladies' locker rooms
Equestrian Center
The Equestrian Center evokes a feeling of a timeless, Old California Ranch. The Equestrian Team provides group and individual riding lessons and also hosts daily trail rides at 10am and 2pm. The Equestrian Center maintains 6 Ranch Club horses for member and guest enjoyment. Facilities include:
- 30 sheltered paddocks for private horse boarding
- 4 tack rooms, 4 grooming stalls, and 2 wash stalls
- 150' x 260' Main Arena with a 150' x 20' Small Arena for lessons
- 20m x 60m with m border Dressage Arena (regulation size)
- 7 irrigated acres divided into 12 individual pastures for daily turnout
- The Track measures 2,380' in length with arena footing
- Fenced trailer storage
- Predominantly Western riding style, but English is also encouraged
The Golf Clubhouse
Ranch Club Members have privileges to use the dining facilities at The Golf Clubhouse, but they do not have golf or driving range access. The Clubhouse has 20,000 square feet of indoor living area, including: The 1,660 sq. ft. Golf Shop, Library/Great Room, Mixed Grill and Lounge, Men's and Ladies' Locker Rooms and Lounges with food and beverage services, massage treatments, steam rooms, and whirlpool. Sweeping views of The Preserve Golf Course and community are enjoyed from multiple outdoor patios.
Moore's Lake
Named for George Gordon Moore, Moore's Lake is an 18 acre, horseshoe shaped body of water providing wonderful boating recreation, canoeing, kayaking, paddle boats, and catch and release fishing. A large sandy beach provides a great spot to enjoy a picnic or to throw a Frisbee.
100 Miles of Trails
The Ranch Club maintains The Preserve's 100+ miles of hiking, biking, and Equestrian Trails. Forty four distinct trails meander through every terrain and microclimate with The Preserve. Most of the trail heads have available parking, and some trails are restricted to pedestrian and/or equestrian use only. The concierge provides two-way radios in case assistance is necessary.
Campsites
There are two campsites maintained by The Ranch Club: Portuguese Springs and Halls Ridge. Both sites are only accessible by the Preserve trail system. Tents and mounted on wooden platforms to protect overnight guests from the elements. Chaperoned tours are available.
Concierge Service
The Preserve concierge not only cares for the members and guests staying at The Hacienda, they arrange a wide variety of service for all Preserve members, such as spa services, transportation, trail rides, deliveries, and whatever personalized service a member may desire.
Catering
In addition to the world-class food and beverage dining options at The Hacienda and Golf Clubhouse, the Preserve staff has the ability to cater member events at their homes. They also orchestrate several weddings and private events at the Club each year.
Traditions
The Ranch Club hosts several annual events which become a mainstay for reuniting multiple generations of members throughout the year.
- The Fandango celebrates the Vaquero traditions of pride of horsemanship skills and community spirit, complete with a barn dance and trunk show.
- A Midsummer Night's Dream is an enchanted evening in the redwoods. Guests enjoy a concert, followed by an elegant black-tie dinner.
- The Annual Wild Mushroom Hunt is hosted by California's leading mushroom enthusiasts, followed by an education debrief and a mushroom themed luncheo at The Hacienda.
- During the Independence Day Celebration, neighbors come together and enjoy a variety of competitive and athletic events. The "Breakfast at Wimbledon" event features an exhibition of members playing with the Preserve professional staff on the grass court.
Events
In addition to the Preserve's Traditions, The Ranch Club staff plans a wide variety of events throughout the year, appealing to everyone's interests and abilities. The summer Kids' Camps are also extremely well received.
The Preserve Golf Club
The Course

Designed by Tom Fazio, with Mike Poellet and Sandy Tatum. Starting times are not required. Caddies are available. Greens are A-4 Bent Grass, and trees and fairways are Colonial Bent Grass.
The course layout resembles that of a trail walk, reflecting many aspects of The Preserve's beautiful natural landscape and breathtaking views. Common trees include Valley and Coastal Live Oaks, Coastal Redwood, and Sycamore trees. Common wildlife includes Golden Eagle, Red
Tail Hawk, Wild Turkey, Gray Fox, Mule Dee, Bobcat, and Mountain Lion.

Four sets of tees provide a playable and enjoyable golf experience for all skill levels. There are also rated combination tees.

Practice Facility
Two-sided practice range, covering 5+ acres, with Titleist practice balls, 6 target greens, 3 putting greens and 2 practice bunkers.
The Clubhouse
Designed by David Howerton of Hart | Howerton Architects. Opening in May 2002, measuring 20,000 square feet of indoor living area, including: The 1,660 sq. ft. Golf Shop, Library/Great Room, Mixed Grill, Mixed Lounge, Ladies Lounge, plus Men's and Ladies' Locker Rooms with food and beverage service, massage treatments, steam rooms, and whirlpools. There are also multiple outdoor living areas surrounding the clubhouse, providing fabulous views of The Preserve Golf Course and surrounding community.
